Ebony lacerated her leg on a metal hook in the trailer.   She was
originally taken to the veterinarian that was in the area and her leg
was treated and bandaged. Once Kristiina got back home with
Ebony she realized that the leg had become infected and Ebony
was in a lot of pain.  She called our clinic and we told her to bring
Ebony in as soon as she could. Once Ebony got to BEH we treated
the laceration and started her on antibiotics. Ebony is now free of
infection and the laceration is healing.

Lucy is a 8 year old  Quarter Horse performance mare. On Feb. 25, 2005 her
owner Tammi was loading her in the trailer and as Lucy stepped in, the partition
began to close on her. Lucy tried to jump away from it, but the latch caught her
flank and made an 18in. laceration. Tammi knew that Lucy needed immediate
treatment, but did not know the severity of it. Once Lucy arrived at BEH the
doctors assessed her and concluded that the laceration would not be able to be
sutured and would have to remain open to heal. Lucy needed daily treatment
including hydro-therapy and topical medications. Lucy was hospitilized at our
clinic for over 3 months.  After a long recovery process Lucy was discharged
from BEH on June 6, 2005.
Her owner is now riding her again and Lucy is doing great.

Dancer is a 7 month old colt who has already been through a lot at his young
age.  He was turned out with his mother to graze and at some point during
that day he lacerated his leg on an unknown object.  He was brought to BEH
for immediate treatment.  His laceration was from the hock to the fetlock and
all the way down to the bone.  With hopes of saving this little guys life our
doctors acted quickly and began aggressive treatment.  He was at our
hospital for over three months receiving medication, daily hydro therapy,
and bandage changes using Silverlon.   With all the efforts of the staff at
BEH, we are proud to say that Dancer is now at home and doing well.
